• Our Surrey Unearthed project serves as both a testament to history and a point of reflection.

The project explored the rich tapestry of Surrey's industrial past and its evolving relationship with the surrounding landscape and stands as a profound reminder of the interconnectedness between humanity, industry, and nature. Drawing inspiration from the geological palette of the region, the monolithic mass of the Watts Chapel and the verdant woodland that characterizes the area.

The design offers a tranquil space for introspection and contemplation and invites visitors to pause and immerse themselves in the beauty of their surroundings by lying inside the form. From this perspective, the landscape unfolds, inviting viewers to marvel at the beauty and complexity of the natural world whilst soaking in the sounds of nature.

The sculpture embodies the ephemeral nature of existence, serving as a poignant metaphor for the passage of time. Slowly but steadily, it begins to melt away back into the earth from which it arose, a reminder of the transient nature of all things.
