Heritage Refurbishment & Extension — Rowheath, Birmingham
Coda Workshop is working with Rowheath Pavilion on a bold refurbishment and extension of this Grade II listed building in Birmingham — introducing contemporary design with reverence for its historic significance.
The focal point of the scheme is a complete reimagining of the street elevation, where a new and distinctive entrance emerges. This leads into an expansive foyer and dynamic multi-functional space, adaptable to a wide range of uses and activities. The design is rooted in openness — inviting occupants and visitors to engage with the building's revealed history rather than conceal it.
Strategic glazing connects the interior with the exterior, offering glimpses of the original pavilion facade from the street and framing views of the surrounding parkland. Glazed panels within the new roof draw natural light deep into the plan, illuminating the foyer and terrace room and enhancing the sense of openness throughout.
The result is an architecture that breathes new life into a cherished community asset while forging a contemporary expression rooted in the spirit of the original.
"Bold and highly positive architecture." — Birmingham City Council
