Heritage Retrofit & Reconfiguration — Worcestershire
This comprehensive redevelopment of a cherished historic mill house in Worcestershire has revitalised the property while placing sustainability at the heart of every decision.
The project addressed the energy inefficiencies of the original building through a meticulous retrofit strategy aimed at significantly reducing the client's dependency on oil. External rendered insulation and roof insulation, coupled with new thermally efficient windows, now envelop the home — cocooning it in warmth and comfort. A wood burner with a back boiler provides supplemental heating, further reducing reliance on fossil fuels and embracing a more sustainable way of living.
Internally, the spaces have been thoughtfully rationalised and reconfigured to optimise flow and connectivity. A full internal overhaul has transformed the layout, seamlessly integrating new features while preserving the historical character of the mill house. A new home office provides a dedicated workspace, a newly designed kitchen serves as the heart of the home, and a former linen cupboard has been extended and transformed to accommodate a generous shower room. The new window configuration frames panoramic views of the surrounding fields — bringing the landscape into everyday life.
Outside, an oak-framed structure extends from the house, creating a balcony and sheltered retreat — a quiet place to connect with the garden and the countryside beyond.
