Research Project — West Midlands
Supported by the Climate Innovation Fund, this ongoing research project sees Coda Workshop developing bespoke retrofit strategies tailored to houses of different periods and construction types across the West Midlands.
At its core is a commitment to real-world effectiveness. Each strategy is validated through in-use monitoring — ensuring that what works in theory delivers genuine impact in practice. As energy costs continue to rise and the urgency of the climate crisis deepens, understanding the measurable benefits of retrofit on energy consumption, environmental impact and household bills has never been more important.
The research aligns with the West Midlands Combined Authority's ambition to deliver energy-efficient homes with low carbon heating across the region. By focusing on the most common house types and construction methods locally, the project aims to develop scalable, replicable solutions that make high-quality retrofit accessible to more people — not just those who can already afford it.
Coda Workshop is committed to driving demand for retrofit, fostering innovation across the construction industry, and contributing to a more sustainable and equitable built environment.
