Public Art Installation — Copr Bay, Swansea
Positioned along the historic railway line that once served Swansea's industrial heart and perched atop a disused coal drop, this public art installation pays homage to the city's rich heritage while embracing its future.
The piece draws on Swansea's legacy as a global centre of copper and metallurgy production — its form referencing the rhythmic cadence of train tracks and the iconic waves of the historic South Wales Docks logo. A nod to the historic swing bridge that once spanned the south dock weaves the city's maritime history into the work, layering references that reward the curious and speak plainly to those who know the place.
The installation is both screen and threshold — permeable by design, offering glimpsed views of the new arena development beyond while providing enclosure for residents on the waterfront. Its balustrading echoes the nearby quayside detailing, integrating the piece into its immediate context with a lightness of touch that feels considered rather than imposed.
A work rooted in history, open to the future, and made for the people of Swansea.
