ROWHEATH LIFE & PLAY

ROWHEATH LIFE & PLAY

In progress, Birmingham, UK

Rowheath Pavilion was built by George Cadbury for the benefit of his workers and their families with a focus on health and wellbeing. As a key element of his Bournville vision, Rowheath provided space for sport, healthy eating, a green space, community interaction and as a way to develop his innovative goal of a healthy balance between work and play for greater wellbeing.

The project will remove a poorly designed 1970s extension to the current Grade II listed building, replacing it with a sensitive modern proposal that dramatically changes the way the building functions for the benefit of the local community, enables a view all the way through the building as the architect John Ramsay Armstrong originally intended as well as accentuating the key historic 1920s features of the existing building including the grand ballroom.
